The first flavor my mom said I should make when she saw my pink ice cream maker was lavender. While I’ve received lavender in a bouquet of flowers before and used pouches of it for aroma therapy, I’ve never actually ate lavender. But I was more than intrigued and up to making something refreshing. I found this very old Epicurious recipe for lavender honey ice cream and dashed to my new favorite kitchen appliance.
I bought edible lavender from Amazon to infuse it in a heavy cream, honey, vanilla, and milk mixture. It steeped for 15 minutes after heating. If I were to make this again, I would definitely steep it for 10 minutes instead. The lavender flavor was definitely delicious and fresh, but a little overpowering; however, the honey provided a delightful balance—I’d even add smidgen more next time! Overall, though, it was very different, very flavorful, and my food coloring concoction made for a pretty, dainty treat.
