An ice cream maker is the one kitchen appliance I never knew I needed—especially during quarantine. My boyfriend (thank you Ryan!) got me this pink, Cuisinart ice cream maker for my birthday last week, and in the first six days I had it, I made FIVE ice cream flavors. Needless to say, I’m obsessed (and honestly surprised I haven’t made more yet).
Last summer, I lived in New York as I interned for the TODAY Show. During humid nighttime strolls in the West Village with friends or as a midday pick-me-up after a 5am shift, I stopped to get a nice refreshing cup of ice cream way too often. And yes, Van Leeuwen’s and Ample Hills are my favorites, thanks for asking! Melted ice cream painted the scene of my New York summer, and truly helped me overindulge in my most favorite sweet treat. Since then, I always wanted to make my own ice cream and try to rival my favorite spots.
Since chocolate is my favorite flavor, I decided to start simple when I used my ice cream maker for the first time and made a classic chocolate ice cream. The texture was perfectly smooth and dare I say, just as creamy as Van Leeuwen’s! I used Cuisinart’s Simple Chocolate Ice Cream recipe, and it was so quick and easy!
Next up, I knew I had to make an espresso chip ice cream. I used Barefeet in the Kitchen’s recipe. Not only was it equally as decadent as the chocolate, but it was also highly caffeinated for those caffeine fiends out there (seriously, my hands were shaking for a good 30 mins!). To top it off, I added chocolate chips because what’s better than espresso and chocolate?
Stay tuned for my next ice cream adventures! Once I post all my flavors, I’ll rate which are the best.
